aFRR Cooperation with Austria - aFRR ATDE

The German as well as the Austrian transmission system operators (TSO) are already part of the International Grid Control Cooperation (IGCC). In this cooperation, the opposite call of automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve (aFRR) is avoided by performing a demand balancing (netting) in both countries.

Since the beginning of 2020, a joint procurement of aFRR has been carried out. In this process, all bids from Austria and Germany are combined and awarded jointly. Country-specific core shares and the available coupling capacities are taken into account. The amount of available dome capacities (Cross Zonal Capacities, CZC) are determined in a weekly cost-benefit analysis and reserved accordingly.
